Knesset panel to meet on detained refugee children after Haaretz report

The Knesset's Committee on the Rights of the Child will convene urgently next week on the illegal detention of unaccompanied minors in the Saharonim prison in the south.

"Every minute that goes by with the children there, the government cannot sleep quietly at night," said committee chairman MK Danny Danon (Likud). "From now on, neither can I." Danon said: "The relevant agencies will need to give answers about detaining children in substandard conditions."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is touring the country in an effort to persuade Likud Central Committee members to support a bid to change the party's constitution. His fiercest opposition comes from Moshe Feiglin and his supporters, however some Likud Knesset members have also voiced their objection to the move.
