This legislation, which calls for harsher treatment of Hamas terrorist prisoners was sparked by the unequal living conditions of Gilad Shalit and Hamas prisoners, has just been confirmed by the Knesset.  Danny Danon wanted to put pressure on Palestinian forces by worsening the living conditions of Hamas prisoners, so hopefully, Gilad Shalit’s kidnappers will want to proceed with talks about his safe release.

The main reason for the bill, and the reason Danon initiated it, is that many terrorist organizations are kidnapping Israeli citizens and using them as bargaining chips, as in the case of Gilad Shalit.  At the same time, members of those same terrorist organizations are sitting in Israeli prisons with visitation rights for friends and family members.  This new bill will prevent terrorist prisoners from receiving visitors, except for those by an attorney or by the International Red Cross.

Danon personally feels the current situation is absurd.  He says Hamas terrorists are receiving VIP treatment while Gilad Shalit is being held hostage, living in despicable conditions and something needed to be done about it.
